Peptides-NMR Research

We are dedicated to exploring new frontiers in peptides research and advancing the world of peptide designs. Our peptide research activities are focused on but not limited to

1. Peptide Medicinal Chemistry - as part of this we develop synthetic methodologies for amicable on-resin modification of peptides to incorporate different functional chemical cores that are not naturally found in peptides, which can be leveraged to unravel novel conformational landscape of peptides in peptides and to elicit desired bioactivity. This area of our research is an alliance between peptide chemistry and small molecule medicinal chemistry such that the features of both worlds are amalgamated.

2. Structure-Based Drug Design of Peptides - as part of this we either rationally design ligands for the receptors from the peptide drug design principles or optimize an existing ligand for its bioactivity.

3. Methods to Improve the ADME Properties of Peptides - as part of this, we explore the journey to identify the chemical tools to impart peptides with membrane permeability/oral bioavailability properties- a major challenge in peptide-based drug design.

Not limiting to this, we continuously embark on newer avenues of peptide research.

NMR spectroscopy is an integral part of our research, and it is continuously applied for structure elucidation, conformation determination of peptides, protein-ligand interactions, metabolomics, study of food and nutraceuticals, and addressing various industry-related problems. Our specific interest is in employing anisotropic NMR as a routine NMR technique for small molecules, and our efforts in this direction are continuing.
Honey Research

Our journey with Honey has been newly found in the context of its importance to India and the World. Honey is a highly complex natural product, created through the collective lifetime effort of thousands of honeybees—one of the most vital species for human survival, second only to oxygen and water. Our initial engagement with honey began as an effort to detect adulteration with various syrups and develop reliable quality control methods. However, as our research progressed, we expanded our focus to explore the diverse varieties of Indian honey. Today, our work spans multiple aspects of honey research, including:

1. Developing NMR Test for Honeys of Indian Origin - for quality control purposes.

2. Profiling of Indian Honeys

3. Determining and Establishing the Standards for Indian Honeys
